Let me preface this by saying this: Brett Favre is one of the most overrated quarterbacks ever.
His interception in last year's NFC Championship Game against the Giants will be the lasting memory of his career. That and the fact he's like 0-12 at Texas Stadium.
So it will come as no surprise that the Favre-Packers saga we've been stuck with the last few weeks has been my worst nightmare. Why does the media make such a big deal out of a mistake-prone quarterback who has thrown for a lot of yards but has only one freaking Super Bowl ring? And why in the world did the NFL's biggest moron, Roger Goodell, have to step in and force a resolution?I agree with ESPN great John Clayton -- this is just an ugly ordeal.
But really I write in regards to Aaron Rodgers' situation. Rodgers is of course the one guy who is most effected by Favre's return. Let's face it, Rodgers might still be the Packers' starting quarterback, but there's no way with the rabid Cheesehead fan base that Favre doesn't start Week 1 against Minnesota.
My solution: Let Favre start and let Rodgers play somewhere else. And get rid of the draft.
Why should Rodgers miss the chance to make millions of dollars because the Packers drafted him and then in his third year Favre decided not to retire and come back and play? Why should Rodgers not be able to opt out of his contract and go wherever he wants to go?
The NFL Draft has to be unconstituional (can someone help with this?) Sure, Rodgers is contractually obligated to the Packers, but that's only because he was drafted by Green Bay and signed whatever rookie contract he is slotted for. He did what he was supposed to do. It's not his fault that a has-been quarterback in his 17th year in the league is so beloved by Goodell, the NFL and ESPN.
So let me start it now: Free Aaron Rodgers!
