Time to say goodbye to Josh Howard

August 1, 2008 17:27 by Todd Wills

Why isn't anyone saying or writing it?

The Mavericks have to cut Josh Howard.

I know, I know, in the NBA, where you have a 12-man roster, it's a crusher to cut a player, especially when he's an All-Star. And I'll admit I'm not even sure of the salary cap implications, and don't really care.

To get arrested for street racing is inexcusable and just plain stupid and most of all having no appreciation for human life. I remember whe I was a kid and one of Highland Park's favorite sons was paralyzed in a street racing incident when he was just driving home minding his own business.

Howard was an idiot for making his comments during the playoffs about smoking pot. But that's a minor offense compared to this one.

There's no doubt in my mind that Mavs owner Mark Cuban will be an enabler and slap Howard on the wrist.

That's very dissappointing. Almost as dissappointing as my favorite Mavericks' website, dallasbasketball.com, not taking a stand.

Look, Howard has always been my favorite Maverick, kind of like Manny Ramirez is my favorite baseball.

But the Red Sox couldn't let Manny be a team killer. And the Mavericks can't keep someone around that doesn't appreciate his own life and even worse those around him.
